An overtime calculator works out your pay when some of your hours are paid at a higher rate — usually time and a half (1.5× your normal rate) for hours beyond 40 in a week under US federal rules. It splits your pay into regular pay and overtime pay and shows the total, so you can check a payslip in seconds.
The formula is simple: overtime pay = hourly rate × multiplier × overtime hours. At $20/hour, 5 overtime hours at time and a half pay 20 × 1.5 × 5 = $150 on top of regular pay. In the US, the Fair Labor Standards Act requires 1.5× for hours over 40 per week for most hourly workers; some states, like California, also have daily overtime rules — always confirm which rules apply to your job.
